Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born on October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is the first vice president to be female and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. history, as being the first African American and first Asian American vice president. A member of Democratic Party, she has been attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017, and also as a United States senator representing California from 2011 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then, she was hired by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was appointed the San Francisco district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and then re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California, from 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the second African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, she was a vocal advocate for healthcare reform, federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants as well as the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. She was well-known for the direct questioning she conducted of Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
